Testimonials

‘I worked with Steven Robinson for several years as a lecturer at Liverpool University and I was always impressed by his thorough preparation and his commitment to his students. His lectures were justifiably popular and have continued to be so during his subsequent work with courses in music appreciation. From my experience, his audiences always emerge enthused, informed, and culturally enriched. Steven will carry you along with his enthusiasm for the music itself – whether it is from the Renaissance or the Viennese Classics – and from his long professional experience, he can enlighten you about its background and significance, as well as putting it in its proper perspective. I can guarantee that the time will fly by, and if you emerge slightly older, you should also emerge a good deal wiser.’

Emeritus Professor Robert Orledge, MA, PhD (Cantab), ARCO, FRSA

‘I have known Steven Robinson as a music appreciation lecturer with HF Holidays over a period of ten years, beginning with a course on Felix Mendelssohn. Other enjoyable courses followed, including nineteenth-century songs (lieder), the music of Ferdinand Ries – a pupil of Beethoven (with Steven being a great authority on that little-known composer’s music), Schubert, and the composers featured in this year’s Three Choirs Festival at Hereford. Steven brings academic scholarship to all his subjects, and does not compromise these standards even when dealing with non-professional people who may be hearing music for the first time. He has considerable communication skills, a friendly and encouraging approach and a willingness to answer questions. His work with older people is really life-enhancing. I have greatly enjoyed his courses and cannot recommend him too strongly.’

‘Every year, when we begin to think about holidays, we first turn to the HF Holidays brochure to see which courses Steve Robinson will be running.  We always select one or two, and, whether they examine the work of a favourite composer, or propose an introduction to a subject we are unfamiliar with, the course will always deliver what was promised, and we leave with more understanding and renewed enthusiasm. [At the Three Choirs Festival in Hereford] the concerts were made immeasurably more enjoyable by Steve’s analysis and illustrations before.’

‘Thank you for another informative and interesting course on music. We much enjoyed it, and feel we learned a good deal – very stimulating as well as entertaining’

‘Having left it very late, in my sixties, to learn the piano, I thought I would not be able to do it. Steven is an excellent teacher and I have been able to make steady progress within a relatively short time and am now onto Grade 3. I would not have been able to do it without his exceptional teaching skills, patience and encouragement which make my lessons very enjoyable indeed.’ Stephanie Creen
