About

The Verdun Allen Music Foundation was established in 2016 to provide an opportunity for adults to deepen their appreciation of classical music through attending short courses on composers and periods of musical history. No prior technical knowledge of music is required, just an enthusiasm for it, and there is no examination.  The organisation aims to offer both an educational and a social experience: after each class there will be an opportunity to chat over lunch in the restaurant at Luther King House;  the educational experience will be enhanced by regular organised trips to concerts in Manchester.

Verdun Allen (1916-1994) was the grandfather of the founder and principal lecturer of the organisation, Steven Robinson. Verdun, a gifted tenor and ardent admirer of Schubert’s Lieder, was born in the same year as the WWI battle of the same name.
