Mendelssohn (1809-47)

Perhaps best known for his Hebrides Overture (Fingal’s Cave), Felix Mendelssohn was fascinated by the relationship between music, landscape and literature. Through short talks, films and recordings of key works we will build up a picture of the man and his music. Content will include: the 5 symphonies, Hebrides Overture, Midsummer Night’s Dream, chamber music (string quartets, octet, piano trios), Elijah, St. Paul, the violin and piano concertos, selected lieder and ‘Songs Without Words.’
